Frequently Asked Questions
How far in advance should I book?
For peak season (Fèis Ìle period), book 3-6 months ahead. Off-season projects can often be scheduled within 1-2 weeks, depending on weather forecasts. If you're needing something last minute though, please do reach out in case I have a window to help.
What about weather conditions?
Islay's weather can be unpredictable, but being local means I can be flexible. I monitor forecasts closely and can launch quickly when conditions are ideal. Wind speeds above 25mph, heavy rain, or poor visibility will ground flights for safety reasons.
Where can you fly on Islay?
Most of Islay is accessible for drone operations, though some areas require specific permissions specifically around the airport and the RSPB reserves. I'm familiar with all airspace restrictions, distillery security requirements, and access protocols across the island.
Do I need special permissions?
For flights over private land or distillery property, permissions are required. I handle all permission requests and coordinate with landowners and estate managers on your behalf.
What's the turnaround time?
Most projects are delivered within 1-2 weeks of filming. Rush delivery is available for urgent deadlines, particularly during festival season.
What will I receive?
High-resolution still images (suitable for print and web) and/or professionally edited 4K video footage, colour-graded and ready to use. Files are delivered via secure download.
What's included in the cost?
All flights, image/video processing, colour grading, and basic editing are included in all rates, except piloting only. Travel across Islay is included - no ferry costs or accommodation charges.
